Athletics Day

When we got back from Tech, we immediately went to have our morning tea and After morning tea we were split into our color groups, we went into our first activity. In my group there was Tai, San Kyaw, Savelina, Magenta and Neveah. In our first activity we were throw a Frisbee into a basket ball hoop. The after that activity was, rob the nest the next was long jump. Long jump was pretty easy for me, but I managed to jump the furthest in my group, and Jack jumped the furthest, making our team come first for this activity. After long jump, we did a challenge where we have to hop our way to a basket using a sack and take a sponge and dodge though obstacles and dip the sponge in a bucket and take the sponge back and squeeze the sponge into our bucket. The team with the most water in their bucket wins that activity. After this we did an activity where we have to throw a ball, using the shot put technique. After shot put, we played ring toss and the first cone was 1 point and second 2 and the last was 5 points . But in for this we used hula hoops. Our second to last activity was surf live savers, and our last activity was egg and spoon.

Hau Rakau

For Te reo Maori, today I created a poster that shows a Maori names of fruits. While doing this activity I learnt some of the fruit names in Maori. Some of them sounds the same in Maori. The task was to just use the Maori name so we can understand by looking at the photos. I completed my work with Junior.

I have created this DLO to show my progression in read theory. I have been working hard and try to get to the highest levels.

Armistice Commemoration

Today Panmure Bridge held a commemoration for Armistice Day since it is on Sunday. Armistice day which is every year on November the 11th to mark and remember the sign between the Allies of World War 1 and when the gun fell silent. We celebrate this to remember those who fought for their country during World War 1. We were lucky to have a member from the NZ Defense Force. During this commemoration sang the pray at the start of the commemoration, Tiava and Jeremiah (head boy and head girl) read the oath, and Ms Kirkpatrick (deputy principal) read the poem about the Flanders Field. During the commemoration we were silent for a minute to remember the soldiers who died during World War 1.

Armistice collage

For reading we were learning about the Battle of the Somme that occurred on July 1st 1916. We first read a text explaining what happened during the war and a few facts about it. We read the text and answered the questions. We answered the questions about the war and got to write our own opinion about what we thought about the war. We have learnt that war shrines were like memorials made to remember the fallen soldiers.

Today for Inquiry we have created a DLO showing facts that we remembered in WW1. I worked with Joshua, San kyaw. We have made this DLO to show you the facts about WW1 and what happened in the war.

Collaborative comprehension: Battle Of The Somme

This week was collaborative comprehension which means everybody collaborated on the same work instead of in groups. We did this since people was getting tested. For one of the collaborative comprehension activities we were going to read the Battle of the Somme even the answer 10 questions that were based on the story. Me and Jericho worked collaboratively to finish this.  

How have camels adapted to their environment?

Did you ever wonder how camels adapt to their environment? Did you know that camels can drink up to 46 liters of water which is 46 of 1 liter coke bottles. The camels also has some special features they have webbed feet so the hot sand doesn't affect them.

The camel's environment is very hot and and the water is scarce which means there is not a lot of it so the camel has to go searching for cactus. The desert is usually 42 degrees hot. The camels lips a very useful because they are doubled.

These animals have double lips that helps them break open and eat thorns and cactus and others. The thorns and cactus do not hurt them because the camels lips have two layers. The camels eyelashes a very important because it prevents it from getting blind.

The camels have two eyelashes so the sand and dust does not get blown into there eyes while they are walking. The camels nostril can open and close the reason why it dose that is so the sand doesn't fly in.

Camels can go as long as a six or seven months  without drinking water, the camels webbed feet and pads is a major thing they have because if they didn’t have that webbed feet and pads their feet would burn and would not be able to walk over the terrain.

This Week for writing we write an explanation about Camels and how they adapt to
their environment. Before we started our writing we watch 3 video clips, we also got
our books because we needed it for our planning. I enjoyed writing this week because
I learnt about Camels and how they adapt to their environment.

Mr Wong Math Challenge Subtraction

Today for maths Mr Wong created a addition and subtraction challenge for our maths group using his smart coding skills to finish this. This maths challenge was very fun and tricky because we used all sorts of strategies to solve it, this activity is really fun and it also exercise my brain and makes it think. All the strategies I used went with the different numbers that came after. The point of the game is to solve all the question that it ask you and get to the end the fastest.

Tech

Today for tech we are finishing off our coloring in, and are going on to drawing our designs on the piece of wood then carving it out. I am up to drawing the design on the wood most of our group is at the same stage as me.

Peace DLO

This week for inquiry San Kyaw and I have been collaborating be finish this DLO off. This DLO tell us about the man Mahatma Gandhi who promoted peace and made it become a thing, there is also a collage about the different peace symbols and a explanation about one of the peace signs. Did you know the peace sign (CND) symbol was mostly used in the United States in 1958 during the nuclear test.

Panmure Bridge Labeling

Today for inquiry we made our own version of the Panmure bridge on a google drawing. We labeled all of the different parts of the bridge and that are used to build the bridge. There are 4 different parts to the bridge that is the bridge deck so people and cars can go across the iron swing opens so the boats can get to the other side, abutment is to hold the iron swing and the piles holds the bridge deck and prevents it from collapsing.

Duffy assembly

Today, it was a Duffy assembly. Our class went to the hall to listen to Michel Mulipola. He explains a lot of things like, his job, and what he does at his spare time. He is a really talented comic illustrator. He showed us some of his drawings and the drawings the he drew for wrestlers, school journals and different types of super hero's. Michel Mulipola is not just a comic illustrator. He is a wrestler and a semi professional gamer. He also told us a tips. Using your face as is guide to draw a proper face and easy. We have really enjoyed listening his career.

Reading book Review

Today for reading we needed to get in to our groups and present our slideshows on the books that we'd read. We needed to explain the theme, the setting, our overall review and other parts related to the book. After we'd explained the work that we'd done our next task was to explain why we did/didn't like the book and who the main characters are as well as where the story is set.

Trip to the whitewater park

Today Panmure Bridge was lucky to be funded by Vector Wero Whitewater Park, but we were to give in $5 each to be part of this activity. There were only year 7 & 8 who had the chance to do a rafting course which was pretty amazing. Before doing anything we were to watch a safety video explaining what we need for the course and how to help someone who's in danger in the water.After that we all put on all our swim suits, helmet, life jacket, and a jacket. We also received a paddle. Soon, we got into group of 6 and each group had an instructor. In my group I had Mataio, Joseph, San Kyaw, Ofa, Freeman and Tim was our instructor, and I. Tim did a little talk about how to stay safe in the water and answered some of our questions. Then it was time for the ultimate rafting course.

HIIT Last rotation

Today is the last week for the HITT (High Intense Interval Training) program. We have been doing HIIT for 15 weeks. We have also have been doing HIIT twice week, we have had lots of different exercise changes and we are apart of the AUT research. This training program is based on increasing our heart rate by Pau te hau which means getting puffed. The 4 rotations we did are tap steps, push ups, star jumps and sit ups. For these rotations we did the 4 sets of each. We also had 10 - 20 seconds to do them. We got an extra 10 seconds for a little brake to regain our energy.

Bridge building

Today for Inquiry we have continued to make a bridge stronger and gluing each part together. Our group has finished creating our bridge. We manege to glue the trusses on the side of the deck. We collaborated and worked out how to make our bridge stronger. We have placed more sticks under the bridge and we have used 196 toothpicks and each toothpicks are worth 25 Cents. All together it was $54.45c. We had a few problems with our bridge the problem was some of the tooh picks were not touching. Me and San Kyaw worked collaboratively to finish this off

HIIT Training

Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra Trip

Today LS2 went on a fantastic trip to see the Orchestra perform all sorts of dances. There are different sections to do with the instruments there was brass which was trumpet, trombone, tube and the french horn. The others were woodwind, percussion and the strings. After they played a song using the instruments and talked about what they do and how they worked, St Kent's performed a very cool dance that involved fog and lots of different lights.
